Doug Robertson, founder of AS/R Systems, began his engineering work at IBM in the Resource Planning department where responsibilities included operations planning, facility design and capital equipment acquisitions. It was Doug’s job to apply new technologies in developing cost effective material handling systems that delivered tighter inventory pipelines while using less labor and space. In 1980 Doug joined G.N. Johnson (a leading distributor of Raymond material handling systems), to develop, design and integrate systems for a broader base of clients. In 1982, White Storage and Retrieval asked Doug to join them in establishing the eastern region of a newly formed Canadian subsidiary; focusing on the integration of newly developed carousel based “pick to light” methods and solutions within distribution and manufacturing operations. In 1991 Doug left White and formed AS/R Systems Inc., transferring all specialized knowledge gained on the front lines of PC/network based carousel automation, into the rebuilding, installing and integration of AS/R’s products and services. Doug received his Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1978, a Masters in Business Admin in 1985 from the same school and is a licensed professional engineer in his home province of Ontario. Bottom line: Doug and his staff bring specialized knowledge, unique skills and years of experienced to all that choose AS/R Systems.

Don Robertson - Executive Vice President

Don radiates integrity, a feeling that transfers to all, especially our customers. Like our entire core management group, Don is an experienced entrepreneur with many years of general contracting experience. A born leader and a natural peacemaker, Don has a talent for completing assignments with cool and panache. Experience has steeled his discipline and honed his knowledge of how to plan and execute projects in a way that gets things done on time, on budget and with a smile on everybody’s face. Don’s formal education includes a BA in civic planning from the University of Waterloo and a B.Ed. from Queens University.
 
Dale Gray - Plant Manager
 
Take a plant full of raw equipment and components, pieces of steel, welders, forklifts, skilled staff and specialized carousel parts, and what have you got? A lot of materials and tools requiring completely different skills to master, something rarely seen but personified in Dale Gray, AS/R’s plant manager. If it’s got to be tested, cut, aligned, installed perfectly straight or otherwise repaired, Dale can handle it. Dale and his son Brent are the primary drivers behind the top-level quality rebuilt product shipped from AS/R’s rebuilding shops in Smiths Falls Ontario and Coal City, Il.

Arne Robertson-Vice President Technology

Arne combines a chess player’s natural foresight and clarity of thought with years of carousel system integration experience.  His ability to make the right “next move” is a tremendous asset to AS/R’s clients.  Arne is the main architect behind AS/R’s software and technical/evaluative products including MAGIC Warehouse™, OTS™, and ANYPART™.  He is also an accomplished WEB master, a capable CAD artist and a top-notch problem solver.  AS/R is regularly hired to solve particularly tough problems due largely to Arne’s solid understanding of computer technology and everything related to integrating carousel systems.  Arne has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Toronto and a BS in Math from the University of Western Ontario

Pete Taylor-Manager, Installation and Field Service

Pete brings years of sales and installation experience to the AS/R family.  Fourteen years in Bio-Medical research sales where finding answers to real-life problems was every researchers dream, has given Pete a different insight into problem solving.  Every installation is different and as much as we try to “dot all I’s and cross all T’s” sometimes problems surface.  Pete’s expertise at finding the quickest and best solution, in these instances, makes him a great asset to AS/R Systems and our clients. Before moving to Colorado Springs from Washington, DC, Pete taught computer courses at his church, nicely complementing Arne’s Magic Software and Rich’s electronic designs.
